Welcome to the August BNF eNewsletter.
This month's issue includes notifications of the new drug monograph naloxegol and drug safety updates (DSUs) for canagliflozin, pomalidomide and tyrosine kinase inhibitors. We outline new guidance for Coeliac disease and updated guidance for irritable bowel syndrome in children. You'll also find NICE technology appraisals for canagliflozin, dapagliflozin, empagliflozin and naloxegol.

This month's changes to the clinical content of these publications are described in three parts:

BNF BNF for Children Update
Miconazole and coumarins (e.g. warfarin): updated interaction advice
In line with a recent MHRA Drug Safety Update, the information in the BNF has been updated to clarify that miconazole (including oral gel and possibly vaginal and topical formulations) greatly enhances the anticoagulant effect of coumarins - concomitant use should be avoided if possible.

NICE technology appraisals that have been added to the BNF this month include:
Canagliflozin, dapagliflozin and empagliflozin as monotherapies for treating type 2 diabetes
Naloxegol for treating opioid-induced constipation

The latest versions of the BNF (BNF 72) and the BNF for Children 2016-2017 are in the final stages of preparation, and will shortly go to print. Fully updated with the latest developments, both will be available in September.

I Monthly price update reminder

Prices of generic preparations of medicinal products are updated every 2-4 months, to coincide with print editions of BNF and BNF for Children. The BNF team keep price information up to date using data sourced from the NHS dictionary of medicines and devices (dm+d).
