BNF BNF for Children Medicines Complete

Welcome to the January BNF eNewsletter.
Four new drug monographs have been added to the BNF in the last month: durvalumab, ciprofloxacin with fluocinolone acetonide, cariprazine and esketamine. Three new drug monographs have been added to the BNFC in the last month: ciprofloxacin with fluocinolone acetonide, burosumab and eslicarbazepine.

We have also included dose changes for Gyno-Daktarin® [miconazole] 2% vaginal cream, colistimethate sodium and information on the doxycycline license extension for children aged 8 to 11 years. We have added information to our Guidance on prescribing: New Medicines Service and Medicines Use Review service, which is also highlighted in the relevant treatment summaries.

We have included MHRA advice on:
Quinine: reminder of dose-dependent QT-prolonging effects.
Hydrochlorothiazide: risk of non-melanoma skin cancer, particularly in long-term use.
Systemic and inhaled fluoroquinolones: small increased risk of aortic aneurysm and dissection; advice for prescribing in high-risk patients which relates to the following the following monographs: norfloxacin, moxifloxacin, levofloxacin, ofloxacin and ciprofloxacin.

We have included recommendations from Public Health England on:
Vaccines: updated guidance for the routine immunisation schedule.
Vaccines: updated guidance for the influenza vaccine.
