Internet Explorer version 7 and Pharmaceutical Press CD ROMs

Some of our CD-ROMs are incompatible with Internet Explorer version 7 (IE7) which Microsoft began to roll out through the automatic update service for Windows XP on 1st November 2006. The publications affected are: Herbal Medicines (2004), Handbook of Pharmaceutical Excipients (2004), Clarke's Analysis of Drugs and Poisons (2004) and British National Formulary for Children (2006).

How do I know if I am affected?

You will find that the Top menu bar and the search are inactive when you hover the mouse over them, which means you cannot get to the areas of information you want. However all the information is still there.

What can I do to get around this problem?

You can avoid using the mouse, and in stead use the Tab key to get to the option you need and select it by pressing Enter.

That's not very convenient, what other options are there?

We recommend that you use a different browser from IE7, whilst maintaining IE7 on your PC too. Suitable browsers to use include Mozilla Firefox version 1.6, Opera 7 or Netscape 6.

Can't I use IE6 instead?

Unfortunately IE7 and IE6 cannot both be used together on the same PC, so you'll have to remove IE7 and restore IE6 to your system in order to do this.

What additional help can you offer?

For Excipients and Herbal Medicines you can click on the “Frames” link at the bottom of the Web page. When Frames is switched on the navigation works correctly as expected.

Disc space requirements

The disc space requirements are made up of three parts

1. Software: .NET framework SDK + MedicinesComplete
2. Content: The size of the publication file
3. Overhead: The installer uses extra during installation, which is reclaimed once installation is complete

The software size is fixed at 110Mb

The overhead is fixed at 40Mb

A minimal installation installs only the software. The content remains on the CD.

A minimal installation is suitable for the standalone edition only.

All versions, minimum installation (no publications) 150Mb

Intranet version

Intended to be installed on an intranet, serving a local area network.
