Causes and treatment/ Chloramphenicol |
Chloramphenicol 1% eye ointment reclassified from POM to P for the treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis, for adults and children aged 2 years and over. It is used at night if drops are used during the day, or 3–4 times daily if used alone. Side-effects, contraindications and cautions are as for the eye drops. Storage is at room temperature. Although the shelf-life once opened is 28 days, patients should be advised to discard the tube at the end of the 5 day course. |

In an assessor blinded, randomised, controlled, parallel group trial involving 58 children and 15 adults with active head louse infestation, dimeticone 4% lotion was found significantly superior to malathion 0.5% liquid, in both worst case, intention to treat and per protocol analyses.1 1.
