Ceftriaxone: substantial changes to indication and dose statements and directions for administration to reflect the updated Summary of Product Characteristics (SPC) for Rocephin® Further information on the changes will be added to the bnf.org news page. Updates NICE technology appraisals A number of NICE technology appraisals have been added to the BNF this month, including: • Ruxolitinib for treating disease-related splenomegaly or symptoms in adults with myelofibrosis • Topotecan, pegylated liposomal doxorubicin hydrochloride, paclitaxel, trabectedin and gemcitabine for treating recurrent ovarian cancer • Valsartan with sacubitril for treating symptomatic chronic heart failure with reduced ejection fraction For a list of all NICE technology appraisals added in this update, see changes. I News BNF - did you know? • More than half a million print copies of BNF and BNFC were distributed in the last year • These books had a combined weight of 400 tonnes (that’s 65 elephants!) • BNF Publications contain more than 1,600 monographs • More than 20 new drug safety alerts were added to BNF Publications in the past 12 months • Over 400 new drug preparations have been added to BNF in the past five years BNF - help from the CPPE An interactive PDF e-learning programme from CPPE is designed to help users familiarise themselves with new recommendations and the latest information in BNF 71. It consists of 10 case studies, and can be accessed here. CPPE have also produced a guide to using the BNF, which you can access on their website here. I Monthly price update reminder Prices of all branded medicinal products in the BNF and BNFC are now updated monthly. Prices of generic preparations of medicinal products are updated every 2-4 months, to coincide with print editions of BNF and BNF for Children. The BNF team keep price information up to date using data sourced from the NHS dictionary of medicines and devices (dm+d).
